Collectors' events I am due to attend this year.

I am attending various conventions and events this year. I am confirmed at the Wales Comic Con event in Wrexham on the 5th June as well as the Sci-fi South Collectors Event in Eastleigh, Hampshire on the 2nd July 2011. I haven’t attended either of these events before, but I’ve heard great things about them and look forward to them both.

I will also be attending NOR-CON 2011 (Norwich Convention 2011) on September 11th. I attended this event last year and had an excellent day. Mark Dean and his team were a delight.

Lonely, shy optometrist JOHN is in love with his shop assistant BARBARA. Petrified of even speaking to her, let alone asking her out, John panics whenever in her presence.

Meanwhile, BARBARA is equally besotted with JOHN. A fact obvious to anyone… except JOHN. BARBARA takes JOHN’S continual panic as dislike, in turn making her nervous and clumsy. The two of them have been stuck in this ridiculous situation for years.

Until, JOHN finds a pair of magic glasses that see 10 seconds into the future. They must be able to help win him BARBARA’S heart… surely?

With a little help from the magic glasses, JOHN and BARBARA find themselves on a date at the cinema… but the more JOHN uses the glasses to predict the future the more they mislead him, and things begin to go awry. Can true love prevail?

Dimension Jump XVI is happening on April 8th, 9th and 10th 2011

If there are any self respecting fans of the Small Rouge One who haven’t been to Dimension Jump before, you now have a chance to make amends.

DJ XVI will be held at The Holiday Inn, Birmingham on April 8th, 9th and 10th. I shall be attending on one of these days as will many of the main cast members. There’s a strong possibility that some of the production and behind the scenes staff will also be there to answer questions. There are signings, Q&A’s, the fancy dress party to end all fancy dress parties and as Red Dwarf fests go, there is simply nothing to rival Dimension Jump.

If you wish to immerse yourself in all things Red Dwarf for three glorious days book your place now. You will find further details at www.dimensionjump.info

Book your Live Talk now!

Over the last seven years, I have been extremely fortunate to sample a great variety of mainly classic and vintage machines from the world of transport. I have decided that it is high time I shared some of my behind the scenes experiences with likeminded folk. At this stage, there are no dates and venues arranged for public performances as the talks are primarily aimed at Historic Vehicle/Heritage Transport Clubs and Societies which occasionally have a guest speaker.

Awarded by Loughborough University for bringing the world of engineering to the public!

‘That’s an interesting costume!’ you’re probably thinking. Well, in July the good people of Loughborough University awarded me a DTech.

As is states on the certificate, I have been ‘admitted to the degree of Doctor of Technology honoris causa by resolution of the Council and the Senate of the University in recognition of meritorious services’. Essentially this is recognition for bringing the world of engineering to the public – mainly through programmes like Massive Engines and Britain’s Greatest Machines and I have to say, such recognition gives me a strong sense of pride!

I travelled to Loughborough for the graduation ceremony on July 16th and had an excellent day. I was very well looked after by Chancellor Sir Nigel Rudd, the Vice-Chancellor Shirley Pearce, Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Ken Parsons and, of course, their colleagues.

The ceremony itself was reassuringly formal and it was good to see all the graduates being awarded their degrees after several years of hard work. It is just a pity I wasn’t able to stay on for the Graduation Ball in the Students Union which, as these things do, went on to 4.30ish in the morning!
